MASSW extends heartfelt compassion and sympathy to the Oxford Schools, the Oxford community, and the first responders. MASSW acknowledges that every community across the state is impacted by today's tragic shooting. MASSW recognizes that school violence is a public health crisis as it involves both a physical and emotional toll: injuries both visible and invisible.
MASSW extends our support to the Oxford Community School District and our state. We are here to help as students, staff, families and the community grieve and eventually heal from this tragedy.
Should you need support, direction, guidance or a referral for support, please contact MASSW at websupport@masswmi.org.

Unfortunately, these school shootings have become way too common. You can be assured that here at Northview we have practiced for such a tragedy, in that we have a community officer that reviews procedures with staff.
While we can never assure our children that nothing bad will ever happen, we can assure them that the adults are prepared and will always do what is necessary to keep them safe.
I would encourage you to limit exposure to media at this time, in that this can be very anxiety provoking to children. You want to be able to explain these incidents on your terms, and to be able to insert your family's values and beliefs.
If you have any questions or concerns about how to talk to your child about this, please do not hesitate to contact me.
